Pedestrian Crossing Lighting
The ideal lighting system for pedestrian crossings should ensure that the intersection is clearly legible and highly visible to pedestrians as they approach and cross the roadway while minimizing glare to drivers. It should provide the necessary vertical brightness to ensure contrast with surrounding lighting and horizontal brightness to ensure roadway uniformity.
MK Lights has designed and developed LED street light sidewalk specific lenses specifically for this purpose, which shines light evenly and efficiently onto the crosswalk, with very little light outside of the crosswalk. At the same time, when streets and roads are calm, crosswalks are used only occasionally. For cities, therefore, it makes sense to reduce lighting at crosswalks to save energy and costs. After all, the fixtures that illuminate the streets ensure a safe and well-lit traffic environment.
The MK LED street light is fitted with a 7PIN NEMA base or a ZHAGA base and can be equipped with a control system terminal that connects to the city’s lighting management system so that the city can dim the lights at any time. Also, it can be equipped with a motion sensor. When the crosswalk is not in use, the lights are dimmed by 10-90% (can be set). When the sensor detects pedestrians approaching, it triggers the floodlights to increase the light to 100% so they can cross the street safely. When no movement is detected for 30 seconds, the brightness is reduced to 20%.
This investment improves safety, especially on high-traffic walking routes, and is fully in line with the city’s goal of encouraging more sustainable travel and infrastructure.
